Hope Distributed Hosts Health Resource Fair

ROCKINGHAM, Va. (WHSV) — On Saturday morning, Hope Distributed, a food pantry, clothing and furniture store, held its first annual health resource fair.

Vendors came from all over the valley to talk with residents about the resources in the area.

“We have about 11 organizations in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, all related to health resources. We have all kinds of different resources here for people to come and ask questions and we have representatives from all of these organizations who can answer any questions and distribute resources to people who need them,” Evelyn Lewis, intern at Hope Distributed mentioned.

Some of the organizations present at Saturday’s event included Sentara RMH, Blue Ridge Free Clinic and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“We notice that many of our clients use Medicare or Medicaid and may not be aware of the resources and benefits they can get from these types of health insurance,” Lewis said.

Whether you have Medicare, Medicaid, any other type of insurance, or none at all, today’s fair offered residents the resources available in the Valley.

“It’s the good idea here is that they can come and get stuff, see how they can use their benefits and especially get different benefits like dental care that they don’t know they can get,” Lewis said.

Hope Distributed will continue to monitor the community and its needs in the future to see how it can better serve it with future health resource shows and events.

“We would like this to continue at least once a year, or even every two years if it becomes necessary,” Lewis said. “We’re really going to continue to monitor the community and see what kind of needs we have to do if we can expand that or change its mission based on what people need.”
