A children’s clothing store celebrates its opening in LaPlace – L’Observateur

LAPLACE — Canon’s Corner, a new kids’ store offering a wide range of styles for boys and girls, celebrates its grand opening from noon to 6 p.m. August 6-7 at 1617 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.

The store will feature streetwear, biker jeans, designer items, everyday wear and a host of accessories including handbags, earrings, bracelets, hats, shoes, socks, belts, headbands and sunglasses.

Canon’s Corner currently has inventory ranging from baby clothes to children’s size 14, but is primarily focused on 18-24 months up to size 8. According to owner Crashaun Long, the sizes offered at the store will fit to meet the needs of the community.

The inspiration behind the business is Long’s 3-year-old son, Canon.

“When I had my son, I thought I wanted to play with him a bit,” Long said. “Everyone asked me where I bought his clothes because they liked the way he was dressed.”

Long does a lot of research into the clothes she selects for the Canon’s Corner brand to ensure high quality, which she says has been lacking in traditional boys’ clothing options.

Canon’s Corner started with a Black Friday pop-up outside The Red Carpet Boutique in 2021. At the time, it only offered boys’ clothing. Her collection grew to include girls’ items and a host of accessories as she frequented pop-up shops near and far, from localized vendor spaces in St. John’s Parish to events in Alabama and Atlanta, in Georgia.

“I was tired of carrying the clothes around with me, so I decided to open a store,” Long said. “I think it will be a great asset to the community, not only in St. John’s parish but also in neighboring parishes, because no one has clothing stores in this area. There’s nowhere to shop that’s very local except Walmart, unless you go to Metairie or Tangier in Gonzales.”

Long often tells people that Canon’s Corner is none of his business; it’s his son’s brand, and all the blood, sweat, and tears it takes to run a clothing store is a labor of love to better his future.

Canon is proud to model their company’s clothing. At just 3 years old, he excitedly tells everyone he has a job – and he’s also trying to hire people.

Hours of operation will be noon to 5 p.m. for the first week of operation and are subject to change.

Canon’s Corner website, https://www.canonscorner.com, will be live after this weekend’s opening event. The storefront can also be reached at 985-441-9799.

Take-out orders will still be available in-store only.
